Nov 2009  -  60 newborn turtles in Dhuni Kolhu! Back to the list

Today early in the morning around 7.30 am about 60 little baby hawksbill turtles reached the light of the world at the beautiful white and long beach in Dhuni Kolhu, in front of the Conch Bar.

We try to help them for a while to grow up and are going to build a cage which will float in the lagoon. Like this they are protected from crabs and other fish who otherwise might think of them as tasty snack.

They usually eat corals, sea sponges, jellyfish and sea grass and we are doing our best to serve them well until they are resistant enough to survive on their own in the Indian Ocean.

If turtles dig their eggs in the sand they usually come back to the place of origin, means we can hope to have turtles for a long time in Dhuni Kolhu.
