Oct 2009  -  International day of climate action Back to the list

Global warming is an omnipresent subject nowadays..

On the occasion of the international day of climate action also Maldives official representatives as well as many resorts and diving centers organized various exciting events to raise attention towards Global Warming.

Certainly also Dive Ocean participated.
We organized reef cleanings with our diving and snorkeling guests and have shown slide shows and video presentations for a better understanding of the effects of global warming on the underwater world. The resorts participated by planting 350 saplings and trees, doing beach cleanings and temporary power cuts for 8 days reaching 350 emission free minutes.

As final staff and guests formed a huge 350 at the island's beach. Why 350?

350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide measured in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere. 350 PPM it's the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. The current level is 387 PPM:

The cleaning action has been very successful; everybody enjoyed making a contribution, even if just a small one, in favor of the environment.

We would like to thank all of our great guests and staff for making it a memorable time!
