May 2009  -  Dhuni Kolhu: (Taenianotus triacanthus) Back to the list

c mantas or huge whalesharks, sometimes divers are amazed by something much smaller but definitely not less pretty. During the last months our divers have been able to spot a beautiful Paper Scorpion Fish at Anemone Garden. Our little friend does however play a game with the divers; he is continuously moving around, making it difficult for us to predict where exactly we can find him. However we have some truly amazing dive instructors that have been able to deliver on almost every trip to the Anemone Garden this far.

The Paper Scorpion Fish is often found next to sponges or on top of corals, where he can blend in with the surroundings, their length is up to 10cm. You can recognize them by the flat body and the sailfin-like fin over the back. Colors vary highly from white, dark purplish brown to bright yellow and pink.
