Mar 2009  -  DOLPHINS! Back to the list

An encounter with cetaceans is quite frequent in Maldives after or before a dive during the boat trip all year long, but also this time of the year is also possible to spot them underwater and in big numbers. During the last month while we were diving in the outer reef we have come across large groups of smallish Striped Dolphins, the same kind that likes to come to ride on the bow wave of boats.

Inside the atolls we have also have the privilege to see Bottlenosed Dolphins. This dolphin is larger being able to reach over three meters in length and is characterized by a darker grey colouring on its back.

Its face is well known to everybody as these are the classic dolphins that can be seen in dolphinariums, movies and TV shows. We expect to continue encountering these amazing creatures at least until May so come before it's too late!!
